Prof. Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Kamaruzaman Hj Ampon 

Third Vice Chancellor of UMS (June 2008 – June 2012) 

Prof. Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Kamaruzaman Hj. Ampon was born in Tawau, Sabah on 21st January 1953He studied at Lancaster University, United Kingdom and received a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry.  He also has a master's degree in Biochemistry from University of York, United Kingdom, and Doctorate (PhD) also in Biochemistry from The Ohio State University, Columbus, United States. 

Prof. Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Kamaruzaman Hj. Ampon started his career as a lecturer at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (now Universiti Putra Malaysia) in 1979 and later moved to Universiti Malaysia Sabah in 1995. Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation. He is the first Sabahan to be awarded a full professorship by a local university. 

As a recognition of his services and contributions to education in UMS throughout his tenure, he was honored this award:  

  • Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK) 2009 (SPDK Carries the Title of "Datuk Seri Panglima") 

Prof. Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Kamaruzaman Hj. Ampon was appointed as the third Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah in June 2008. He served and led the university until June 2012.
