Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Noh Dalimin 

Second Vice Chancellor of UMS (April 2005 - June 2008) 

Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Noh Dalimin was born on 18th March 1952 at Parit Raja, Batu Pahat, Johor. He is the sixth child out of nine siblings. He received his early education in his hometown, Batu Pahat; Primary education in Sekolah Kebangsaan Pintas Raya (primary 1-3) and Limpoon Primary English School (standard 4-6), and Secondary education in High School Batu Pahat. He graduated with bachelor's degree in physics from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, Master of Science in Solid State Physics from Bedford College, University of London, and Ph.D in Experimental Solid-State Physics, from Imperial College London. 

He started his career as a tutor in 1975 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), then in 1981, he was appointed as a lecturer in Physics at the same university. In 1992, he was appointed as Deputy Dean, Faculty of Science and Natural Resources of the same university, before joining as Foundation Dean and Professor of Physics, School of Science and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, in 1995. 

As a recognition of his services and contributions to education in Sabah throughout his tenure, the government has honored him with various awards: 

• Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (A.S.D.K.) in 1998 

• Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (P.G.D.K.) in 2000 

• Pingat Darjah Kebesaran Negeri Kelantan in 2007 

Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Noh Dalimin was appointed as the second Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah in April 2005. He served and led the university until June 2008. Among the important matters addressed at the beginning of his appointment as vice chancellor were improving the processes and emphasizing the importance of having a first-class quality of human capital as well as improving students' welfare so it can be the driving factor in increasing the interest of more students’ applying to study in UMS. 

The conferment of Emeritus Professor to him on 23rd November 2013 was an appreciation for his contributions in the field of Physics and Applied Science, as well as contributions to the education development and administration in UMS.
